Etchings.
Jahn 131 II (of II) and 255 II (of II). Signed, dated, inscribed and titled in plates. Excellent (Jahn 131) and fine impressions on firm wove paper (one with watermark "H[einrich] Oser Super fein [Basel]"), with full margins, and with ca. 1 cm narrow margin around platemark respectively. Up to: 13,8 x 19 cm (5,4 x 7,4 in). Sheet up to: 21 x 26 cm (8,3 x 10,2 in).
In these sheets Klein portrayed his two Nuremberg painter colleagues Johann Jakob Kirchner and Johann Christoph Erhard. Kirchner is seated drawing on the banks of the Danube, Erhard on a bank in Park Aigen near Salzburg, also drawing in his sketchbook. The portrait of Erhard, who died in Rome in January 1822, was used by Klein as title vignette for his estate. [CB].
