PROVENANCE: Private possession Southern Germany.

It is not only the famous winter landscapes that earned Anton Doll his position in the circle of artists of the Munich School. His lovely sceneries soon found their lovers, too. Doll's landscapes are interesting compositions, especially those that do not depict any particular topography. The small stage that his protagonsts act on is embedded into a harmonious landscape scene. Narrative elements hardly disturb the calm composition at all. Doll's interpretations aim at tranquility, an approach that he had in common with almost all artists of the Munich School. Doll did not attempt to explore new artistic realms, in a charming manner he remained very attached to his native region. His pictorial talent is dominated by hid graphic mastery.
