Bronze, with slightly brownish patina.
Schilling 295 a. With monogram on the upper side of the head. Presumably a third cast that Schilling does not mention. 6,3 x 13,8 x 1,4 cm (2,4 x 5,4 x 0,5 in).
Flat, abstract cow with both sides in a different design.

PROVENANCE: Private collection South Germany (acquired directly from artist).

The configuration of abstraction in this cow lying down is essentially shaped by a geometric canon of forms. The varying surface textures, however, still underscore the formal character of this relief-like work, which in the consistency and cogency with which Ewald Mataré has made his statement linking formal coherence in an inventive aesthetic whole.
