Dudelsackbläser. 1908.
Etching and aquatint with drypoint.
Krüger R 9. Signed, dated and inscribed "I". Monogrammed in the plate. Lower margin with title and inscription. One of ca. 10 copies. On laid paper. 13 x 11 cm (5.1 x 4.3 in). Sheet: 29 x 19,9 cm (11,4 x 7,8 in).
"Pechstein usually printed just a few copies, in his early days only between 5 and a maximum of ten", this changed after 1912 only. (Quote after: G.Krüger, Das Druckgraphische Werk Max Pechsteins, Hamburg and Tökendorf 1988, p. 17). The inscription "I" on our sheet is the sheet's number within the edition, which means that this is the first proof of a maximum of ten. [FS].
A sheet with this motif is offered on the international auction market for the first time (source: artnet.com).

PROVENANCE: Galerie Glöckner, Cologne.
Private collection Hesse (acquired from aforementioned in 1987).

EXHIBITION: H. M. Pechstein - Grafik, Galerie Glöckner, Cologne 5 December 1986 - 31st January 1987, cat. 31, cat. no. 2 (with illu. on p. 10).
