The large paintings of Jonas Burgert are ruled by the grotesque, the bizarre and the mysterious. Surreal figures intrude into his pictorial spaces, garish colors cover the gloomy night grey. Entire worlds evolve, frightening and attracting at the same time. Jonas Burgert thereby appears as gifted storyteller and paints complex narrations like they were taken from a scary science fiction novel. Our painting, part four of the large “Potsdam-Zyklus”, illustrates this unity particularly well. In an irritating way Burgerts' monumental work develops a unique attraction, drawing the spectator deep into its enigmatic world.
