The oeuvre of Antonio Calderaras must be regarded as independent and largely uninfluenced by contemporary tendencies. "His work emanates calmness - it is complete and accomplished. His nearly classic work stands for just one name: Calderara." (Heinz Mack, quote after: Der Maler Antonio Calderara. Freunde, Einflüsse, Anregungen, ex. cat. Kunsthalle Kiel 1982, p. 52). With sparely used forms and a reduced palette the artist seeks perfect harmony. His small works, like for instance this one, in which color contrasts are barely perceivable, emanate a subtle poetry and meditative calmness.
