• Between 1927 and 1929, Schmidt-Rottluff traveled to Ticino several times and found inspiration for his intense watercolors in the mountainous landscape.
• In an almost abstract manner, the artist dissolved the mountain range and Lake Lugano into softly flowing shades of blue, red, and green.
• He skillfully transforms the atmospheric panorama into an exciting composition of vertical, horizontal and diagonal elements, cold and warm contrasts and alternating soft and opaque areas of color.

The work is documented in the archive of the Karl and Emy Schmidt-Rottluff Foundation, Berlin.
