In the summer of 1913, Erich Heckel visited the “Brücke“ patron Gustav Schiefler at his vacation home near Mellingstedt/Hamburg. Mellingstedter lock, located right below the house, is the motif of the present beautiful drawing. Heckel put main focus on the ramp used for rowing and paddle boats, which leads up to the embankment next to the river bank on the right. In this work Erich Heckel’s architecture studies become obvious. He shows the structural details with great precision, while the steeply rising bank, densely overgrown with trees, is sketched with expressive dynamic.

In good condition. All in all minimall discolored. Right and bottom margin slightly irregular from the making. [EH]
