Einzige lateinische Ausgabe von Teil VII aus De Brys Kleinen Reisen, mit Berichten von Ceylon und Pegu.
Erster Druck mit dem gestochenen Wappen des Erzbischofs Schwichardt zu Beginn der Widmung. - Enthält eine Reisebeschreibung des holländischen Admirals Joris van Spilbergen von seiner Fahrt nach Südostasien 1601-1604 mit dem Hauptziel Ceylon, wo er sich - ein Jahr vor Gründung der Niederländischen Ostindien-Kompagnie - um Anknüpfung von Handelsbeziehungen mit dem König von Kandy bemühte. Der zweite Bericht behandelt Gasparo Balbis Reisen 1579-1588 durch Vorder- und Südasien, speziell nach dem Königreich Pegu (heute in Myanmar), die "reiches Beobachtungsmaterial lieferten" (Henze I, 151).
EINBAND: Pergamentband unter Verwendung alten Materials. 4to. 31,5 : 21 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit illustriertem Kupfertitel, gestochener Wappen-Vignette und 20 Textkupfern (von 22; 2 über das ganze Doppelblatt, 18 halbseitig). - KOLLATION: Gest. Titel, 1 Bl., 126 S., 1 Bl., 1 Bl., 22 (st. 24) überwieg. num. Bll. mit den Illustrationen. - ZUSTAND: Fehlen Textkupfer XVIII und XIX (in Faksimile ersetzt). Gebräunt, im unteren Rand mit kleinen Feuchtigkeitsspuren, ca. 5 Bll. mit Durchstreichungen und Tintenfraß. Vorsätze erneuert. - PROVENIENZ: Flieg. Vorsatzbl. mit Besitzerstempel Pier Paolo Vaccarino (20. Jh.).

Only Latin edition of part VII from De Bry's "Small Voyages", first issue with the coat of arms of Archbishop Schwichardt at the beginning of the dedication. Contains two travel accounts by Joris van Spilbergen and Gasparo Balbi to West and Southeast Asia, esp. Ceylon and Pegu. With illustr. engr. title, engr. armorial vignette and 20 engravings (of 22; 2 doublepage and 18 halfpage text engravings). 2 parts in 1 volume. Vellum binding, using old material. - Lacking in part II the "plates" no. XVIII and XIX (replaced in facsimile). Tanned, with slight dampstaining and small defects to bottom of pages, c. 5 leaves with ink corosion of crossed-out lines. - Front flying endpaper with 20th cent. ownership stamp "Pier Paolo Vaccarino".(R)
