Zweite Folio-Ausgabe. - "Die Merianbibel bedarf kaum weiterer Erläuterungen. Sie ist in Süddeutschland, Basel und dem Elsaß wohl die verbreitetste deutsche illustrierte Bibel gewesen .. und leitete eine Entwicklung der Bibelillustration ein, die immer weiter weg vom reformatorischen Zweck der Bibelbilder zum rein Darstellerisch-Künstlerischen führte" (Schmidt).
EINBAND: Spätere Halblederbände mit goldgeprägten Rückentitel, 37,5 : 24,5 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 3 Kupfertiteln und 233 Textkupfern von M. Merian. - KOLLATION: 23 Bll, 675, 264, 182, 328 S. - ZUSTAND: Stellenweise leicht fleckig, 6 Bll. mit tls. längeren Einrissen, 1 Bl. mit Farbrest (leichter Textverlust). Einbände berieben und etw. fleckig, 1 Kaptial eingerissen. Flieg. Vorsätze entfernt. Kreisrunde Lederapplikation auf dem Deckel. S. 91-94 verbunden. - Insgesamt sauberes Exemplar der berühmten Bibel, mit guten Abzügen der Kupferillustrationen.

Second folio edition. With 3 engr. titles and 233 engravings by M. Merian. Contemp. half calf and gilt lettering and spine. Slightly stained in places, 6 ll. with some longer tears, 1 l. with color residue (slight loss of text). Bindings rubbed and somewhat stained, 1 capital torn.
front fly-leaves removed. Circular leather patch on cover. Pp. 91-94 missbound. - Overall a clean copy of the famous Bible, with good impressions of the copperplate illustrations.
