Sehr seltenes Lyoneser Stundenbuch mit Buchschmuck von Pierre Vase (Pierre Eskrich). Repräsentativ für die letzte Phase dieser Andachtswerke.
Die schönen abwechslungsreichen Holzschnitte und Bordüren teils von Pierre Vase monogrammiert. Die ganzseitigen Holzschnitte zeigen den Heiligen Johannes, Judaskuß, Verkündigung, Heimsuchung, Geburt Christi, Verkündung der Hirten, Anbetung der Heiligen Drei Könige, Darbringung im Tempel, Flucht nach Ägypten, Krönung Marias, Kreuzigung, Ausschüttung des Hl. Geistes (Pfingsten), David mit der Harfe und Auferstehung des Lazarus. Der Kalender zu Beginn für die Jahre 1553 bis 1573.
"The initials 'PV' of Pierre Vase appear in the majority of the cartouches. The blocks were designed for the Bonhomme-Rouille Horae, which begin with 1548 edition in French and Latin for Rome use" (Mortimer 311).
EINBAND: Roter Maroquin-Einband des 18. Jhs. mit reicher Goldprägung, Steh- und Innenkantenvergoldung sowie punziertem Ganzgoldschnitt. 18 : 11,5 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit breiter Holzschnitt-Titelbordüre, 14 ganzseitigen Textholzschnitten sowie Text durchgehend mit (tls. wdh.) Holzschnittbordüren, sämtlich von Pierre Vase (Pierre Eskrich). - KOLLATION: 168 nn Bll. - ZUSTAND: Ca. 10 Bll. mit kl. Tintenfraß in den Bordüren, 10 Bll. (P3-Q3) stark schmutzfl., davon 3 Bll. mit Randeinriß und 2 Bll. mit ergänztem Ausschnitt (Bild- und tls. größerer Textverlust, dieser von alter Hand ergänzt), wenige Bll. im Seitensteg knapp beschnitten, vord. flieg. Vorsätze mit verschied. Einträgen von einer Hand des. 19. Jhs.

Very rare printed book of hours with book decorations by Pierre Vase (Pierre Eskrich). Representative of the final phase of these devotional works. With wide woodcut title border, 14 full-page text woodcuts and text with woodcut borders throughout (partly rep.), all by Pierre Vase (Pierre Eskrich). Handsome 18th century red morocco binding with rich gilt decoration and punchmarked gilt edges. 18 : 11.5 cm. - Ca. 10 leaves with small ink corrosion in the borders, 10 leaves (P3-Q3) heavily soiled, of which 3 leaves have a tear in the margins and 2 leaves have a mended cutout (loss of image and text, this has been replaced by an old hand), few leaves cropped close at fore edge. Front endpapers with entries by 19th cent. hand.(R)
