The art of Mathieu, the main representative of French Tachism, was inspired by various sources. His gestic style shows influences from Hans Hartung and Wols, but also from East Asian calligraphy. To the artist it is about the immediate, emotional and intuitive act of painting. This work is an example of a speedy painting process integrating coincidence as a stylistic device. [EH].
