• From the sought-after Berlin period.
• Dynamic scene from Kirchner's studio.
• As it was the case with the so-called "Viertelstundenakten" from the early Dresden "Brücke" years, Kirchner, now a masterful draughtsman, succeeded in sketching the essence of the female nude and the surrounding interior with quick, confident strokes.
• The Berlin studio, like the studio in Dresden, is not only a living and working space, but also a meeting place for amateur female models.
• The "Brücke" artists described the depiction of people, and in particular the female nude, which is a recurring theme throughout Kirchner's entire artistic oeuvre, as "the basis of all visual art"
.

"All this also changes the style, first and foremost in the drawing: it becomes more elongated and expressive [..]. The line becomes increasingly finer, fiercer and more nervous, the frequent use of zigzag hatching becomes steeper and more pointed."
Wolfgang Henze, Kirchner der Zeichner, Henze & Ketterer catalog no. 78, p. 12
