The booklet contains the speech Prof. Dr. Ludwig Thormaehlen delivered on September 23 on occasion of the openiong of Erich Heckel's exhibition at the Badische Kunstverein. In 1953 Erich Heckel made the woodcut "Den ungenannten Freunden".

• In the woodcut Erich Heckel refeences his 1913 wooden sculpture "Frau", as he does at sebveral times throughout his creation.
• The Tübingen townscape with the Hölderlin tower can be seen in the background.
• Heckel also references the Hölderlin poem "Hälfte des Lebens".
