Verso with the estate stamp of the Kunstmuseum Basel (Lugt 1570 b) and the hand-written registration number "L 405 I". One of just four known copies and one of only three known copies from the second printing state. On yellow wove paper. 59.8 x 50.8 cm (23.5 x 20 in). Sheet: 73 x 56,6 cm (28,7 x 22,2 in).

• In 1921 Kirchner used Shakespeare themes for his ghraphic works, apart from Ophelia, he also made a woodcut with the the death of Cleopatra ("Die Selbstmörderin", Yale University Art Gallery).

Very fine overall impression. Side edges minimally irregular. Edges with a few small closed losses and splits, one in left affecting the image. Margin slightly creased and with isolated tiny skinned spots. Upper left with a smoothed creasemark. Lower left margin with three small rebacked holes and one in lower right of the image. Minimal mount staining.
